Half-shagreen decorated with two superb plates on the covers, long spine, richly decorated in particular with two medallions, the one at the top is a Lion of Flanders surrounded by a reference to William Hassie Landgrave (Lantcravius Hassie Wilhemus), the one on the magpie to the Virgin. Lower cover with a superb cathedral decoration in the center in a beautiful oval richly decorated and framed. All edges gilded. 285 x 205, 550p. With tables 1880. 2nd edition. With a preface by Léon Gauthier. Illustrated with numerous drawings (vignettes, chapter headings, tailpieces, initials) and 34 full-page ill. under serpente including 8 chromolithographs (including frontispiece) and 26 black and white (including a double page). Interior generally clean, the little foxing is in the margin. Corners bumped. Covers and fields rubbed, scuffs on the fields. Joints rubbed, upper joint cracked and briefly opened at the head and foot. Spine rubbed, especially at the head and tail with scuffs and folds. Good, firm copy.
