Extra: handwritten recipe for “Syrop de Glaubert” on the penultimate blank page. [or Glauber’s salt: This salt is known under different names: sodium sulfate, “admirable salt”, “Glauber’s cathartic salt”, sulfated or vitriolated soda. It was discovered by Glauber in 1658, while examining the decomposition of sea salt by sulfuric acid. In France, it came mainly from Lorraine, where salt springs were exploited. Subsequently, it was extracted from sodium chloride. It is colorless, very efflorescent, with a fresh flavor, less bitter than that of sulfate of magnesia. It was an effective purgative and widely used. (Dorvault, 1886, p. 962; cited by wikip.)] Interior sunned with scattered foxing, but overall clean, intact. Corners and fields rubbed, corners slightly dulled, one corner leveled. Covers rubbed with scuffs, stains, some losses on upper cover. Joints briefly split at head and foot of joints, small loss at head of both joints; some wormholes in upper joint. Spine rubbed with scuffs on ribs; headcap and tail missing; small losses at head and tail of spine. Very firm copy.
